CULTURE WATCH : Of Roosters and Presidents

Share

The Chinese new year, 4691, has started and it is now the Year of the Rooster. What does that mean for those seeking omens?

People born in the Year of the Rooster are deep thinkers, brave and outspoken, according to the Chinese zodiac. Their best matches are born in the Years of the Ox, Serpent and Dragon. They are not compatible with people born in Years of the Dog or the Rat.

Bill Clinton was born in the Year of the Dog. People born in the Year of the Dog are believed to make good leaders because of their deep sense of duty. But they’re also very stubborn and critical of others.

Al and Tipper Gore are Rat-year people. Those born in the Year of the Rat are destined “to be well-fed, rich and active,” the zodiac says. They do not lend money and tend “to pinch pennies but can be generous with those they love.” Incidentally, George Bush was born in the Year of the Rat.

Dan Quayle is a Boar-year person--lots of inner strength, short-tempered, hates arguments. Although well-informed and studious, they are not deep thinkers. Hillary Clinton is also a Boar Year baby.

The Chinese Zodiac is similar to astrology, notes Ellen Quan of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, in that people can pick out the things they like--about themselves or other people--and ignore the rest.
