A summary of significant Los Angeles City Hall decisions affecting the Westside in the last week.

CITY COUNCIL

SIMON WIESENTHAL CENTER: Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky is requesting that a portion of Roxbury Drive south of Pico Boulevard be temporarily closed from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 7 for the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s dedication ceremony for its Museum of Tolerance. Yaroslavsky is asking that the city waive the $13,928 in fees and employee overtime costs relating to the closure.

LEAD POISON TASK FORCE: Councilman Michael Woo is asking that the city form a Lead Poisoning Prevention and Abatement Task Force to evaluate and educate the public on the dangers of lead poisoning, especially its effects on young children living in inner-city communities.

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

WALK OF FAME: Approved adding the name of singer Gloria Estefan to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. A ceremony is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 3 at 7021 Hollywood Blvd. The council must give final approval.

HOW THEY VOTED

How Westside representatives voted on selected issues:

LATCHKEY FUNDS: Approved applying to the federal and state governments for $270,896 for the city’s Latchkey and child care programs for fiscal year 1993-94. The programs are run by the Recreation and Parks Department at various recreation centers. Passed: 13-0.

VOTING YES: Marvin Braude, John Ferraro, Nate Holden, Mark Ridley-Thomas and Zev Yaroslavsky. Ruth Galanter and Michael Woo were absent.

EMERGENCY ROADWORK: Approved spending $1.7 million to repair streets and hillsides in the western section of the city damaged by the recent heavy rains. Passed: 13-0.

VOTING YES: Braude, Ferraro, Holden, Ridley-Thomas, Yaroslavsky. Galanter and Woo were absent.

POTHOLES: Approved the installation of a toll-free number, 1-800-489-CITY, for residents to report the location of potholes left by the recent rains. Passed: 12-0.

VOTING YES: Braude, Ferraro, Holden, Ridley-Thomas, Woo and Yaroslavsky. Galanter absent.
