Year of the Woman: Women TV reporters are making big strides, according to a recent study done by the Center for Media and Public Affairs, a Washington-based research group. The report says that women are covering more stories than ever on network newscasts. In 1992, 10 of the 50 most visible reporters on the ABC, CBS and NBC were women; in 1991 only four made it to the Top 50. And a woman is in the No. 1 spot: NBC’s Andrea Mitchell tied for first place with NBC’s John Cochran in number of stories covered; both did 172 in 1992. CBS’ Susan Spencer was the next woman on the list at No. 6 with 128 stories.
