LOS ANGELES : Youth Pleads Not Guilty in Fatal Fairfax Shooting
A teen-ager Tuesday pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a classmate at Fairfax High School.
A pretrial hearing was set for Feb. 23 for the 15-year-old boy, whose name was not disclosed because of his age. The youth said he took a .357-caliber Magnum to school because he feared gangs. The weapon accidentally fired when he reached into his backpack, and the bullet wounded one student and killed another, police said.
A bullet passed through Eli Kogman’s chest and killed Demetrius Rice, 16. Kogman, 17, was released from a hospital several days later.
