The 1993 Chinese New Year is the “Year of the Rooster,” which began on Jan. 8. Listed below are various events sponsored by the Los Angeles Chinese Chamber of Commerce: SATURDAY Miss L.A. Chinatown Beauty Pageant--A queen and court will be selected to represent the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, 9876 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills, with Dinner at 7pm. Tickets are $75, $100, and $125. Contact the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, (213) 617-0396 for reservations.

FEB. 6-14 Photo Exhibit--The topic of this exhibit will be the early L.A. Chinese community. It will be held in the Bamboo Plaza, 988 N. Hill St., L.A. Chinatown.

FEB. 12-14 Chinatown Community Carnival--The carnival, at the Castelar School, 840 Yale St. in Chinatown, will feature rides and games. General admission is free; rides and games are extra.

FEB. 13 Golden Dragon Parade--This year’s grand marshal is Dr. Haing Ngor. Honorary grand marshals will be Munson Kwok and Jim Tsai. The parade begins at 2 p.m. and will cover the 600 to 1000 blocks of North Broadway in Chinatown.

FEB. 19 Chinese New Year Banquet--This year’s banquet will be held at the Empress Pavilion, 988 N. Hill St. in Chinatown. Tickets are $30. To purchase, call (213)617-0396.

FEB. 28 15th Annual 5k/10k Firecracker Run--Pre run activities for this event will feature lion dancing and firecrackers. The run will begin on the corner of North Broadway and College Street in Chinatown at 8:30 a.m. Proceeds will Benefit Chinatown community service groups. Contact (213) 621-3049 for more information.
