SOUTH LOS ANGELES : Democrats Elect 12 to 48th District

Democratic Party members in the 48th Assembly District have elected 12 new representatives and officers in hopes of boosting community participation in local and state politics.

The representatives will gather local input on issues and make policy recommendations to the State Central Committee of the Democratic Party.

The newly elected members, who all worked on Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign, include six USC students--Boris Parker, Michael Buckner, Ernie Savage, Jimmy Moye, Tracey Belton and Sarah Szalavitz.

The officers are Rod Wright, chairman; and Janet Clark, treasurer. Other new representatives are Edwina Ward, Staci James, Muriel Parker and Johnnie Roberts.

Bobbie Anderson, vice chairwoman, and Lillian Mobley, secretary, were appointed to their posts.

The boundaries of the district are Pico Avenue on the north, Van Ness Avenue on the west, Manchester Avenue on the south, and Alameda Street on the east.
