Family Adds Another Eagle Scout to Its Ranks

Daniel W. Besocke, 17, of Arcadia Boy Scout Troop 125, has become the fourth son in his family to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Richard, Charles and Walter Besocke, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Besocke and members of the same troop, previously won Scouting’s highest rank.

Daniel has served as patrol leader and senior patrol leader of his troop, participating in Camporees, Scout Expos, backpacking, snow and water skiing and Colorado River canoe trips. He earned 24 merit badges.

For his Eagle project, Daniel led a group of Scouts who improved facilities at Five Acres, a 100-year-old Altadena home for troubled and neglected youths. The project involved painting, laying new linoleum flooring, repairing fixtures and other construction.

Daniel is a senior at Arcadia High School, where he has earned varsity letters in swimming and water polo and has served as water polo team captain.

Dr. Joseph E. Morales, 47, of Pasadena has been named by Gov. Pete Wilson as director of the state Emergency Medical Services Authority. His annual salary is $95,052.

Morales is medical director of the San Gabriel Valley County Health Centers Network for the county Department of Health Services. He previously served as senior physician at County-USC Medical Center.

He is a member of the American Public Health Assn. and the American Society for Public Administration.

He graduated from Manhattan College and New Jersey Medical School and has a master’s degree in public administration from USC.

Robert Hastings of Pasadena, a founding partner of the law firm of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker, has played host to Nickolei Melnick, a senior-level attorney from Russia, during a monthlong visit to Los Angeles in January to work within a U.S. law firm and learn how an American law firm operates.

Melnick worked in the firm’s Washington office in December and this month is working in the New York office.

The program is sponsored by the U.S. Commerce Department’s Special American Business Internship Program for Managers of the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union. The program is part of the Unites States’ efforts to assist countries in the former Soviet Union make the transition to a market economy by providing technical assistance and training.
