Privatization of Services Serves No One
State Assemblyman Gil Ferguson is not a friend of the California public employee. His ill-thought-out piece (“County Needs Latitude to Contract Out Jobs, Save Tax Money,” Commentary, Jan. 31) spins the issues from the side of management alone and raises questions it does not go on to answer.
Public employees are indeed concerned that privatization of public services will reduce their health benefits. The private sector does not offer these to employees when public services are contracted out to the private sector. After raising this issue, the assemblyman fails to answer this legitimate concern.
Privatization of public services will only result in poor service to those who need these services and minimum-wage jobs in exchange for good jobs at a decent living wage.
