First-place Holua sailed into dying, four-knot wind on the third day of Del Rey Yacht Club’s 1,125-mile race from Marina del Rey to Puerto Vallarta, allowing the rest of the fleet to close in.
Blake Quinn’s Santa Cruz 70 from Monterey Peninsula YC had 692 miles to go at Monday morning’s roll call. She made only 152 miles in the previous 24 hours and was 14 miles ahead of Kathmandu, but eight other ULDB 70s were spread from 30 to 50 miles behind and gaining.
