4 Professors Honored as School’s Top Guns

The Cal State Los Angeles Academic Senate has awarded its Outstanding Professor Awards to Marilyn Friedman, professor of nursing; Richard D. Roberto, professor of mechanical engineering; Jeanine Gaucher-Morales, professor of French and Spanish, and Timothy Steele, professor of English.

Friedman, an authority in family nursing, has been a faculty member for 23 years. She graduated from UCLA, earned a master’s degree in public health from the University of Minnesota and a master’s and Ph.D. in sociology from USC.

Roberto joined the faculty in the School of Engineering in 1966. He graduated from Cal State L.A. and earned his master’s degree at UCLA.

Gaucher-Morales joined the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures in 1965. She graduated from the University of Nebraska and earned her master’s and Ph.D. at USC.

Steele joined the English department in 1987. He graduated from Stanford University and earned his master’s and Ph.D. at Brandeis University.

The award was established by the Academic Senate to recognize excellence in teaching, scholarship, research and professional achievement.
