Petrina Long, an associate athletic director at Columbia University, has been selected to fill one of UC Irvine’s two associate athletic director positions, Athletic Director Dan Guerrero announced Wednesday.

Long is a California native who has spent the last nine years at Columbia, one as associate athletic director and eight as an assistant athletic director. She also has been an assistant athletic director at Southern Methodist, as well as an adviser and tutor in the athletic department at California.

Long, whose title will be associate athletic director for student services, replaces Barbara Camp, who left for a similar position at Auburn. Long will be the senior women’s administrator at Irvine and will oversee both the men’s and women’s programs in areas of academics, counseling, housing and NCAA compliance, among other duties.

Petrina is familiar with this area, the University of California system, and she is recognized as one of the top-notch women’s athletic administrators in the country.”

Long is expected to start March 1.

Guerrero, who became athletic director in December, will also hire an associate athletic director to oversee fund-raising.
