Lt. Gen. Edward P. Barry Jr., the Air Force’s highest-ranking officer in Los Angeles, may not get any respect from the Pentagon’s inspector general.

Barry was one of three high-ranking military officers who the inspector general last month said should be disciplined for their role in secretly bailing out McDonnell Douglas in late 1990. No disciplinary action has yet been taken.

Barry is, however, a hero to the Greater Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber will bestow upon Barry the “Kitty Hawk/Sands of Time” award at a black-tie banquet in Beverly Hills, citing his work as “instrumental in maintaining deterrence during the Cold War.”
