VENTURA : Downey’s Condition Upgraded to Serious
Hospital officials on Thursday upgraded the condition of Ventura Planning Commissioner Tim Downey, who collapsed at a meeting earlier this week, from critical to serious.
Downey is not yet ready for visitors, but is feeling better, said a nursing supervisor at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura.
“He’s awake, alert and talking,” the nurse said.
The 44-year-old commissioner has a history of heart problems, according to the nurse. He collapsed at a meeting of the agency Tuesday in front of about 150 people.
He led a successful campaign last November for building a desalination plant instead of contracting for state water. The measure passed by a 55% to 45% margin.
