HAMMERING HIM: Carl Blumay of Laguna Niguel, an executive with Armand Hammer for 25 years, has written a book about the late oil baron-philanthropist that may tarnish the image a bit. Blumay depicts Hammer as cold, vindictive, and so obsessed with his reputation for wealth that he inflated the value of his art collections. “Hammer wanted to control everything and everyone,” says Blumay. “Since he couldn’t control this book, I’m sure he would have hated it.”
