QUIET, PLEASE: It’s a shame that busy John Wayne Airport isn’t even busier, says a new regional government report. The report warns that Southern California badly needs more airports to meet growing air cargo needs, and it cites the airport as lowest in cargo tonnage. A reason: Air cargo requires more fuel and bigger planes, which would violate the airport’s noise restrictions. . . . Explains spokeswoman Courtney Wiercioch: “A quick lesson in air cargo physics: Noise equals weight plus length.”
Small Loads
Noise restrictions force John Wayne Airport to carry the lightest cargo load.
