CAPISTRANO BEACH : Volunteer Group to Offer Food Packages

Share

A new food distribution-volunteer service in South County has begun taking orders for food packages.

Distributed by Share, an international volunteer organization, the food packages cost $14 and require two hours of community service.

“They include fresh vegetables and meat and are probably worth at least three or four times what they cost,” said Jerry Riley, spokesman for the Capistrano Beach group. A similar Share organization is already in place in Mission Viejo.

The community service can be performed with any private or public civic organization, Riley said. About 200 people have already signed up for the program.

“There’s such a variety of ways to qualify (for the food packages), anything from volunteer work at Sunday schools, nursing homes, hospitals, senior groups to taking a neighbor to the hospital will do,” Riley said.

Food packages will be distributed Feb. 27 at Calvary Chapel of Capistrano Beach. To sign up, call (714) 240-2434.
