WORDS AND IMAGES : Christian Writers : A new group is putting together a writing conference with panelists whose credits include dozens of published works.

The newly organized Christian Writers of Ventura County are plunging into writing conference territory. The group’s first “Write the Vision” morning conference will focus on helping writers sharpen skills and plumb creative talent. The workshop panelists, whose credits include dozens of published books, articles, short stories and poems, will be Kathi Mills, Ruth Bathauer, Marilyn Hochheiser and Bill Myers. Myers is also a film writer, director and co-author of “McGee & Me,” a Christian video series for children. The conference, intended as an annual event, will begin with an 8 a.m. registration/coffee hour Feb. 27 at South Coast Fellowship, 1711 Wood Place, Ventura. The fee is $20 if paid before Wednesday. The Classic Cinema series sponsored by Friends of the Library continues with the 1972 Swedish film “The New Land,” which will screen at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Thousand Oaks Library, 1401 E. Janss Road. A $2 donation will be requested at the door.

Director Stanley Kubrick’s brilliant spoof of nuclear war, “Dr. Strangelove,” starring Peter Sellers, Sterling Hayden and Slim Pickens, will be shown at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the Ojai Playhouse, 145 E. Ojai Ave. The series is sponsored by the Ojai Film Society.

Shaun Brown, a senior at Nordhoff High School, and his assistant, Kevin Saffell, will share juggling and magic secrets and show children ages 8 and up how to make paper airplanes at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Ojai Library. Jim Pabian of Ojai, author of the recently published novel “Immigrants’ Son,” will be honored at a book signing and champagne reception at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Table of Contents Bookshop on Ojai Avenue. Pabian, who is now legally blind, enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a movie animator. He completed the semi-autobiographical tale on the cartoon industry by dictating to his wife Pat as his eyesight diminished.
