Racism

The touching and heartbreaking essay by Valerie Schultz (Voices, Feb. 8) about racism passed to kindergarten-age children by their parents contains but one objectionable statement: “ . . . the years of Reagan/Bush have taken their toll on the outside in many small ways.” This no doubt refers to the racial intolerance she is describing.

Sad to say, it matters not who has or will occupy the White House. Were it Presidents Clinton, Carter or Kennedy, I’m afraid her daughter would face the same reaction by her classmates to her befriending an African-American youngster.
