Ford Under Safety Defect Scrutiny: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has upgraded an investigation into potential problems with the gasoline tanks on 1.3 million 1990-92 F-series pickups and Bronco utility vehicles made by Ford Motor Co. NHTSA also upgraded a probe into General Motors Corp.’s 1991-model Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird cars for possible fuel leaks. About 141,000 cars could be affected, agency spokesman Tim Hurd said. NHTSA, in its Monthly Defect Investigation Report for January, also upgraded its investigation into 1992-model Ford Explorer sport-utility vehicles for a misaligned indicator on vehicles with automatic transmissions. The Mazda Navajo, an almost identical version of the Explorer also made by Ford, is also affected.
