Comarco to Buy Maryland Company
In a continuing effort to diversify from defense contracts, Comarco Inc. said Friday that it has agreed to acquire an engineering company in Maryland for an undisclosed price.
Comarco, which provides engineering services to the military and government agencies, signed a deal to acquire MAR Inc. in Rockland, Md., an engineering and technical services company with annual revenue of about $20 million.
Don Bailey, chief executive of Comarco, said both companies are concentrating on providing services such as program management to the government. About 70% of Comarco’s business is defense-related, while 80% of MAR’s revenue comes from defense. Bailey noted that MAR, however, also has skills in marine environmental engineering, such as measuring water pollution in the Atlantic Ocean. He said the acquisition is expected to have a positive effect on Comarco’s financial results for the current fiscal year.
The acquisition adds 300 employees to Comarco’s payroll.
