Indifference

Share

I am a small business owner that lost my clinic to the spring riots. The building burned on the first night of the riots when no police or fire personnel were available to protect the building.

I have been paying business taxes to the City of Los Angeles for many years. Our tax bill for this facility was over $5,000 for 1992. Last May I requested a refund for the months we would be unable to operate. I was told the city had no provision to return any taxes at that time.

On Feb. 9 I called the city and again was told that there would be no refund or tax credit. We keep reading how the city is interested in cooperating with businesses damaged by the riots. This is just one example of the indifference we have been shown.
