OP WINTERSURF PRO : Laguna Hills’ Beard Is 11th Overall in Snowboarding

Larry Beard of Laguna Hills finished best among surfers in the snowboarding competition in the third annual Op WinterSurf Pro held Sunday at Bear Mountain in Big Bear.

Beard finished 11th overall in the field of 32 and won $500. Craig Kelly of Glacier, Wash., took first place and $1,000.

The competition was supposed to have combined surfing Saturday at Huntington Beach and Sunday’s snowboarding. But the surfing portion was called off after lighting hit the judge’s stand Friday night at Huntington Beach.
