New Director: Cincinnati’s Contemporary Arts Center, which came under legal and political fire for its 1990 Robert Mapplethorpe exhibition, “The Perfect Moment,” has a new director. Elaine A. King, former director of Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Mellon Art Gallery, has been named to succeed Dennis Barrie, who successfully led the museum’s legal battles over the Mapplethorpe show. Barrie left the museum in June to start a free-lance exhibition design firm. King wrote her dissertation on the National Endowment for the Arts and pluralism in the U.S. visual arts.
