South Pasadena : Sidewalk Dining Policy
The increasingly popular practice of sidewalk dining in the city faces new restrictions under a policy adopted by the City Council last week.
In a 4-0 vote, the council approved a permit process for restaurants wishing to serve patrons on public sidewalks. Councilman Dick Richards abstained from the voting because two of his daughters own Buster’s, a South Pasadena ice cream shop that offers sidewalk dining.
The new policy requires affected restaurants to carry a minimum of $1 million in liability insurance. It also sets a seating capacity of four people per 10 feet of sidewalk frontage and requires that a five-foot-wide sidewalk path be maintained for pedestrians.
