Paramount Schools : 31 May Lose Jobs as Budget Shortfall Looms for ‘93-94
Anticipating a budget shortfall for 1993-94, Paramount Unified School District officials will notify about 31 employees that their jobs may be eliminated next year.
District officials have not yet prepared their budget for next year nor determined the fiscal impact of the layoffs, but the law requires that the employees be notified by Monday.
The positions include elementary school principals, teachers’ aides and counselors. “The positions listed here should not in any way be viewed as services we can do without,” Supt. Michele Lawrence said. “I am optimistic these people will not leave our organization.”
In many instances, individuals who receive the notices might continue as employees, taking positions held by workers with less seniority, officials said.
