Re: Malibou Lakeside/an open letter to Supervisor Ed Edelman:

The further crippling of Malibou Lakeside by the Board of Supervisors on Jan. 28 was wrong and cowardly.

After two years of being unable to substantiate the doomsday claims of a small, elitist group of constituents, Supervisor Ed Edelman has suddenly realized that he had better cover his tracks and try to reduce the county’s liability for violating private property rights. So he asked for another study of the first study. Studies are supposed to be done to avoid ruining lives--not to justify it.

Leadership is the ability to reach compromises that promote improvement. This order will ensure further deterioration of an already substandard community and bankrupt landowners and less affluent homeowners. Malibou Lakeside was doing quite well before Edelman came to this district. It was a model of slow growth (about two homes per year) and values rose moderately. Now, Edelman and the homeowner association have managed to destroy it economically within 24 months.

We vacant landowners have continually worked for reasonableness and sound safety controls that will maintain the integrity of the area and protect our investments. Somehow we cannot find condemnation of our land and complete loss of resale value a reasonable compromise.
