Heart in the Right Place

I want to commend the coverage of the Valentine’s Day Rally for women with breast cancer at the Federal Building in Van Nuys on Sunday, Feb. 14 (“Breast Cancer Group Pushes for Added Research,” Times Valley Edition, Feb. 15).

I was stunned when I returned home that night to watch the evening news on TV. I saw news story after news story about buying flowers and candy for your valentine but nothing about the 190,000 women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.

I can tell you what the 46,000 women who will die from breast cancer this year wanted for Valentine’s Day and it wasn’t a Hallmark card or a box of See’s candy. It was their lives.

I want to thank the Los Angeles Times for having its priorities straight.
