THOUSAND OAKS : Man Pleads Guilty in Stolen Property Case
A Newbury Park man who was arrested and later released in the arson of a Thousand Oaks comic-book store pleaded guilty Friday to an unrelated felony charge of receiving stolen property.
Christopher David Nagano, 21, was promised probation by Superior Court Judge Allan L. Steele when he is sentenced April 16. He could have been sentenced to three years in the California Youth Authority, according to court documents.
Nagano by his plea admitted possession of a stolen gun when he was arrested on suspicion of arson in the Sept. 18 fire at the Heroes and Legends store on Thousand Oaks Boulevard. The gun was stolen from an Agoura Hills shooting range that Nagano frequented, according to court records.
Nagano was charged briefly with arson in connection with the comic-book store fire. Prosecutors, seeking to speed the case through the court system, presented their evidence to the county grand jury, which refused to indict Nagano.
Prosecutors said the arson case remains under investigation.
