El Monte : Protection for Firefighters
The El Monte City Council approved the fire chief’s “urgent request” for $11,000 to buy protective vests for the city’s firefighters.
In a written request, El Monte Fire Chief Leslie George cited the increasing risk firefighters face of gunfire, especially when providing medical support to police at shooting and assault incidents.
George also pointed to the necessity of protective vests in case civil unrest results at the conclusion of the Rodney G. King and Reginald Denny trials.
