Who’s on the List? In the search for a successor to Michael Gartner as president of NBC News, the network will not only consider candidates from NBC but also well-known outside journalists, sources said. NBC News Executive Vice President Don Browne, who assumed the day-to-day running of the news division with Gartner’s announced resignation on Tuesday, is one candidate. Two other possibilities--Tim Russert, Washington bureau chief and “Meet the Press” moderator, and NBC Sports President Dick Ebersol--have said that they are not interested.
