Rockwell Acquires Swiss Company: In a move designed to bolster its commercial business, Rockwell International Corp. said it has acquired Sprecher & Schuh, a Swiss company that is Europe’s fourth-largest manufacturer of electronic control devices. Terms were not disclosed. Sprecher & Schuh, which makes starters, circuit breakers and other devices, reported 1992 revenue of $200 million. The company’s current management will operate it as part of Rockwell’s Milwaukee-based Allen-Bradley subsidiary. While defense business once dominated Rockwell’s revenue stream, commercial work now accounts for 60% of its business.
