Compton : Proposal to Ban Handguns Fails to Pass City Council

Share

In the wake of the slaying of two Compton police officers, Mayor Pro Tem Bernice Woods called for a ban on handguns in the city.

After calling the shooting deaths of officers Kevin Michael Burrell and James Wayne MacDonald a tragedy, Woods made a motion at Tuesday’s City Council meeting to ban all handguns within city limits.

The motion was seconded by Councilman Omar Bradley, but died on the table when Councilwoman Jane D. Robbins abstained from voting on the issue.

Councilwoman Patricia A. Moore was absent, and a seat left vacant when Walter R. Tucker III was elected to Congress has not been filled.
