Alpha Micro Lets Some Workers Go and Hires Others in Consolidation

Alpha Microsystems Microsystems has laid off about 10 employees as part of an ongoing consolidation that is designed to help the computer system and software developer deal with slowing revenue.

“We let a few people go, but this week we also added three people” in other departments, said Douglas Tullio, Alpha Micro’s chief executive. He described the moves as “the normal course of action” in an industry where competitors are fighting to control costs.

Alpha Micro, which has more than 300 employees, cut costs last year by closing two overseas subsidiaries and eliminating some headquarters jobs.

The company in January reported a $261,000 profit and $10.8 million in revenue for its third fiscal quarter, which ended Nov. 29. That compared to a $39,000 profit on $12.5 million in revenue for the same period a year earlier.
