Two Compton Officers Slain

During my years as uniform division commander, I removed from patrol duty any officer who was resigning. They were assigned to desk duty for two main reasons: To eliminate any chance of their being injured during their final days, and so they wouldn’t become involved in arrests, resulting in troublesome court appearances (some leave for far-off jobs).

I would recommend that any department not having that policy adopt it.
