What a pleasure to read Bill Stall’s wonderful article (“Hiking Inn to Inn in the Bernese Oberland,” Feb. 14) on hiking in Switzerland. However, as one who regularly spends summer vacations tramping the trails there, I recommend that Stall, or anyone else interested in such a vacation, pursue his or her own itinerary. Idyll Ltd.’s Untours of Media, Pa., offers well-appointed vacation apartments throughout the spectacular Bernese Oberland (including the town of Kandersteg). Their package includes an excellent hiking guide, and the Swiss transportation system quickly whisks hikers to trail heads, including those mentioned in Stall’s article. I would also recommend Marcia and Philip Lieberman’s book, “Walking Switzerland the Swiss Way,” (The Mountaineers, 1987).
