CAMARILLO : Middle School Plan May Bring Transfers

Share

Continuing their quest to establish a middle school in Camarillo, Pleasant Valley Elementary School District board members are considering moving sixth-grade students to Monte Vista Intermediate School.

Board members have directed Assistant Supt. Howard Hamilton to report at the next board meeting on a proposal to convert Monte Vista to a sixth- through eighth-grade middle school, Hamilton said.

The intermediate school now has only seventh and eighth-grade classes.

Under the proposal, school officials would make room for sixth-graders at Monte Vista by assigning seventh- and eighth-graders who live in eastern Camarillo to Las Colinas School.

Seventh- and eighth-grade classes were moved out of Las Colinas a few years ago to relieve crowding at the school, which is the only one in fast-growing eastern Camarillo.

A planned new elementary school on Woodcreek Road, expected to be completed by fall, 1994, would alleviate crowding at Las Colinas, allowing room for the older students.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. March 18 at City Hall.
