System Service Acquired: Alpha Microsystems said Monday that it has agreed to acquire the computer maintenance assets of a computer sales company for an undisclosed price.

The acquisition of the division of MGI International, a Los Angeles company that sells and installs computer systems, is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

Douglas J. Tullio, chief executive of Santa Ana-based Alpha Micro, said the deal is expected to add about $1.2 million in annual sales to Alpha Micro’s computer maintenance business. MGI, which specializes in servicing computer systems that use the Unix operating system, has contracts that include 294 accounts in Southern California.

Alpha Micro laid off about 10 workers and reassigned several others last week as part of a general cost-cutting move.
