High School Student Pleads Not Guilty in Laguna Attack
A San Clemente High School student pleaded not guilty Monday in Orange County Superior Court to charges stemming from the beating of a 53-year-old man, an incident authorities have characterized as a hate crime.
Jeff Michael Raines, 18, pleaded not guilty to all charges in the Jan. 9 attack on Loc Minh Truong in Laguna Beach. Raines, who was released last month on a $150,000 property bond, faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison if convicted of charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and committing a hate crime.
Another San Clemente man, Christopher Cribbins, 22, pleaded not guilty Feb. 10.
