VAN NUYS : Woman Wounded in Domestic Dispute

A Van Nuys woman was in serious but stable condition Tuesday after allegedly being shot by her former boyfriend in a domestic dispute, police said.

Kershan Spencer, 21, was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center after neighbors reported hearing a gunshot Monday about 6:15 p.m. in an apartment complex in the 6600 block of Hayvenhurst Avenue. Los Angeles police officers who were dispatched to the apartment arrested Denelle Wince, 23, of Van Nuys on suspicion of attempted murder, Detective Mitch Robins said.

Spencer told police that the shooting occurred after she and Wince began arguing over child-rearing practices involving the couple’s 2-year-old daughter. Spencer said she was defending herself against an assault by Wince.

“She supposedly pulled a knife and he pulled a gun and shot her,” Robins said.

Spencer suffered a single gunshot wound in her upper body, Robins said. Wince, who was not injured by the knife, is being held on $500,000 bail until his arraignment at Van Nuys Municipal Court. The couple’s daughter is in the custody of the county Department of Children’s Services.
