I read with more than a little sadness that Bullocks Wilshire is closing. When I was a high school girl of about 17, I got a job there for Christmas vacation. Living in Glendale, my father felt it was too far for a young girl to drive. My mom volunteered to get a temporary Christmas job at neighboring I. Magnin so we could car pool.
We had a ball! We worked among celebrities, lace and cashmere. On our drive home at night, we’d chat merrily about our day. That was pretty much the end of our retail career--but for me it was two of the best weeks of my young life.
