VAN NUYS : Probation Ordered in Kidnaping Try

Share

A Superior Court judge sentenced a Kern County man to three years probation for the attempted kidnaping of a Canoga Park woman who was accidentally shot and killed by her husband in a rescue attempt.

Joe A. Yohn, 27, of Rosamond was granted the probation in connection with the death in July of Linda Jane Corum, 52. Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Leon Kaplan also ordered Yohn to stay away from the victim’s family and neighborhood and forbade him to carry firearms.

On July 25, Yohn, upset about the breakup of a romantic relationship with Corum, drove to her house and pulled Corum into his car, Deputy Dist. Atty. Larry Diamond said.

Fearing for his wife’s safety, the woman’s husband, Larry Corum, fired a warning shot into the air and then fired another into the trunk of Yohn’s car.

The second bullet hit Linda Corum in the chest and killed her, police said.

Yohn pleaded no contest to the charge of attempted kidnaping on Feb. 8. A murder charge in the case was dismissed against him the same day. No charges were filed against Larry Corum.

Diamond said his office recommended the sentence for Yohn, which included credit for time served, for several reasons.
