Headmaster of Crossroads School Changing His Job : Education: Paul Cummins will be replaced by Associate Headmaster Roger Weaver.

Paul Cummins, longtime headmaster at the private Crossroads School in Santa Monica, will relinquish his post July 1 to Associate Headmaster Roger Weaver and will devote more time to community outreach programs and fund raising.

Weaver, who has been with Crossroads for the last decade, will assume responsibility for direct management of the school’s day-to-day activities. He holds a bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara and a master’s from UCLA, and came to Crossroads after stints at Flintridge Prep in Pasadena and La Jolla Country Day School. He was a founder of the Independent School Alliance for Minority Education and is currently overseeing an assessment of how well Crossroads is meeting the needs of diverse ethnic groups and integrating them into its community.

Cummins will become school president and executive director of its Community Foundation. Over the last 20 years, he has guided Crossroads’ growth into a 900-student private elementary and high school that stresses individualized learning and offers a wide range of courses. He will continue teaching but will concentrate more time on the private-public school partnerships he has long championed, as well as other community projects.

Already he has spearheaded several outreach programs, including a long-term arts infusion program for the Broadway School and choral and orchestral classes for Palms and Edison junior high schools.

In announcing the changes, Board of Trustees Chairman Nathaniel Trives said the new titles and restructured duties should have little impact on the school’s program or goals. He noted that the two men are close friends and have worked closely in shaping Crossroads’ course.
