One man was killed and another critically wounded early Saturday when a gunman fired several shots into a crowd standing in a gas station parking lot, police said.

The shooting occurred about 2 a.m. in front of the Arco AM/PM Mini Market in the 3400 block of South Main Street, said Santa Ana Police Cpl. Steve Gales.

According to police, a man in a white car drove into the parking lot, got out of the vehicle and “started talking incoherently to the crowd.” Two men, identified as Shawntell Williams, 18, of Tustin, and Dante Burnett, 18, of Santa Ana, accused the man of being a gang member, and he began firing at both Williams and Burnett, according to authorities.

Williams was hit once in the abdomen and died at a local hospital, Gales said. Burnett was hit four times--once in the head, arm, chest and back--and was listed in serious condition at an area hospital.

The gunman fled and was last seen driving north on Main in a small gray car. He was described as a black man wearing a brown shirt and brown pants, about 5-feet-10 to 6 feet tall and about 175 pounds.
