Novadyne Computer Systems Inc. has turned over its Santa Ana parts warehouse and repair depot and the 50 employees who work there to Cerplex Inc. of Anaheim.

Under a strategic partnership agreement that took effect March 1, Cerplex, which has several other computer-parts repair operations in Orange County, will lease the former Novadyne facility, located on the ground floor of Novadyne’s Santa Ana headquarters building, and will charge Novadyne market rates for repair work.

Most of the former Novadyne employees were hired by Cerplex. Their benefits and pay at Cerplex will be “about the same,” Novadyne spokeswoman Pat Dwight said. Several employees were let go, however, because their jobs overlapped existing positions at Cerplex, Dwight said.

Cerplex now has almost 600 employees, while Novadyne has about 700.

Novadyne installs and maintains computer systems and had been doing its own repairs under manufacturers’ warranties, she said.

Cerplex is an independent company that specializes in repairing electronic equipment, computer parts and medical equipment under the manufacturers’ original-equipment warranties.

Dwight said that the new relationship not only relieves Novadyne of a significant payroll expense but also enables the company to offer more product lines to its clients because Cerplex can repair more brands. Cerplex plans to move part of its Anaheim and Irvine repair operations to Santa Ana, she said.

The partnership agreement does not affect Novadyne’s repair facilities in Dallas and Pennsylvania.
