Defeat of School Ballot Measure
What a pity! We San Gabriel property owners blew a golden opportunity for a win-win proposition--namely to provide a high school for our students and to enhance our property values--and all for the modest average investment of about $1 per week.
Defeat of the measure leaves us now with no high school for our 9th-12th grade students as well as a devastating blow to the value of our property. Widely circulated, totally false, predictions of threats to 75 homes and excessively high taxes took a heavy toll.
Last year we voted to unify the San Gabriel School District to include grades 9-12 for the first time. Hopefully we’ll have a second chance to honor this commitment we made to our students, our community and ourselves. We surely blew it on Tuesday.
