A teen-ager was arrested after a brief shootout Wednesday between two gangs, police said, with at least one bullet grazing a parked school bus.

A dispute broke out about 3:30 p.m. between gang members near the corner of Earlham Street and Chapman Avenue, police said. Chapman is the line dividing the two gangs’ turf, police said.

Words were exchanged before two rival gang members began shooting at each other, Police Lt. Timm Browne said.

One gang member ran across the six-lane Chapman Avenue during rush hour, with a rival gang member chasing him. Once on the other side of the street, the first youth reloaded and fired again, Browne said. A police officer nearby, who saw that youth run to a waiting car, followed the car and arrested 19-year-old Jessie Duran.

No one was injured. But a school bus, with only the driver aboard, was struck by at least one bullet.
