LOS ANGELES : Trial Ordered in Shooting of 3 Doctors at County-USC

A judge on Friday ordered a man accused of shooting three doctors and holding two women hostage at the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center last month to stand trial on charges of attempted murder and false imprisonment.

At the 40-minute preliminary hearing, Los Angeles Police Detective John Spreitzer testified that Damacio Torres, 40, told him after his arrest that he went to the hospital “to seek revenge upon the doctors.” The detective said Torres told him “I went to shoot every doctor I could see,” and indicated that could be up to a dozen physicians. The defendant is being held on $1.5-million bail.

Prosecutors contend that Torres walked into the nation’s busiest hospital Feb. 8 and opened fire, critically wounding Dr. Richard May, 47. Drs. Glen Rogers, 41, and Paul Kaszubowski, 44, also were wounded in the attack.
