Sharing the Ride

Linda Valenti of the Orange County Transportation Authority says (Newswatch, March 14) we in Orange County don’t car-pool because “most commuters don’t like to give up the freedom of having their car, so car-pooling is intense behavior modification to them.”

I realize that the new politically correct bureaucrats think that freedom and capitalism are bad words, but many of us don’t live or work with our neighbors. Many cannot car-pool because we go to different locations every day and at different times with different hours. As far as behavioral modification, I’m still having trouble accepting that taxes are now “contributions,” government waste of my money is “investment” and vandals are “tagger artists.” Before the OCTA thinks that I need behavioral modification (a new job), I would like to know what percentage of Ms. Valenti’s colleagues ride-share. It had better be near 100%, and limousines don’t count.
