Sweet in La Jolla: “Sweet & Hot,” the West Coast premiere of a new revue featuring more than 30 songs of the late Harold Arlen, will replace the new Stephen Sondheim musical that was originally to conclude the La Jolla Playhouse season. Julianne Boyd, newly named artistic director of the Berkshire Theatre Festival and co-creator of “A . . . My Name is Alice,” has conceived the piece and will direct it Sept. 19 through Oct. 24 at the Mandell Weiss Theatre. The revue includes “Stormy Weather,” “That Old Black Magic,” “Over the Rainbow” and “The Man That Got Away.” The Sondheim musical has been rescheduled for the Playhouse’s 1994 season.
