Workers’ Comp

Share

Here is a good example of why small business has an extremely difficult time doing business in California. Our workers’ compensation insurance was canceled by the Hartford Insurance Co.

Our insurance broker went on a search and found that all--yes, all--of the better insurance companies have canceled their coverage for workers’ comp in California for companies whose premiums are under $125,000 yearly. Our premiums come to a cost of about $12,000 yearly, we cannot get a policy. In 26 years in business we have had only two claims, the last one being about 12 years ago!

The reason for this non-coverage, the insurance people tell us, is due to the extremely high incidence of fraud in the California experience.

If our elected officials in Sacramento would walk the streets of reality instead of pandering for votes, I am certain they would quickly recognize the need to revamp the workers’ comp program to help entice businesses to at least remain in California.
